Institute of Human Rights and Communication Nepal (IHRICON has for many years been conducting various interaction programmes in a variety of different subjects. The topics of the meetings include Peace, Media, women rights, children's rights and arms control. These programmes have been run in order to build up the capabilities of those who have participated in peace building at a village, District and National level.

IHRICON 0 and "Interaction with parliamentarians to revise the legislation on controlling arms" event in 2006. The programme was jointly organized by IHRICON and SASA-NET. Most of the political leaders and parliamentarians who attended the event made the commitment to form a national commission on small arms. Also as a result of the event the Speaker of the House of Representative stated that he was committed to bring the issue of small arms control before Parliament.

The objectives of the programme are set out below:

  • To obtain the commitment from the parliamentarians to reform the legislation to control small arms and to implement the arms trade treaty due to its importance in regulating the use and availability of all small arms.
  • To increase awareness amongst journalists of the arms trade treaty and issues of controlling small arms.
