News:Women Rights training for the Nepal Army Trainers

The Institute of Human Rights Communication Nepal (IHRICON)the Directorate of Human Rights of the Nepal Army jointly organized a 4 days training of trainers (TOT) programme on United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSCR) 1325 & 1820. The Training was conducted for personnel from the Nepal Army. The programme was supported by the Save the Children Nepal.

The programme was inaugurated with the views of Nirendra Prasad Aryal, Director of Human Rights, Nepal Army, Ms. Shobha Gautam, the Founder President of IHRICON and Sita Ghimire, the Deputy Director Save the Children
 
The training was conducted for the 21 trainers who have been working in different training departments within the Nepal Army. There was more than 45% of the participants who were women and these included women who were the ranks of Major, Captain and Lieutenant.
 
The participants of the event were: Maj. Krishna Bdr. Dumrakoti, JAG. Maj. Radha Krishna Silwal, JAG. Maj. Yvetta Rana, Maj. Shamsher Bahadur Singh, Maj. Navin Raut, Capt. Krishna Sharan Gurung, Capt. Shiva Basnet, Capt. Tirtha Dixit, Capt. Dhal Bhadur KC, Capt. Shyam sundar Bardaula, Lt. Ram Pyari Sunuwar, Sabina Shrestha, Buddha Kumari Thebe, Kriti Rajbhandari, Gyanu Thapa, Dinesh Bhattari, Suchitra Thapa, Deepa Khadka and Bal Kumar Sunuwar.
 
Ms. Shobha Gautam, of IHRICON, Mr. Kapil Kafle, the Executive Director of IHRICON, Babita Basnet, Chairperson of Sancharika Nepal, Debika Timilsina- a human rights activist, Raju Nepali Deputy Director of Directorate and Dr. Bishnu Pathak, a conflict resolution expert all acted as resource personnel for the training. They all provided the participants with information about the UNSCRs as well as how human rights could, and should, be upheld in Nepal.
 
At the conclusion of the event all the participants expressed their satisfaction about the training. They expressed their gratitude to IHRICON for running such a programme on these important issues. Souvenir was presented to IHRICON by the participants of Nepal Army for outstanding knowledge and guidance during the programme Ms. Shobha Gautam, and Kapil Kafle then distributed certificates of active participation to the participants. Mr. Kapil Kafle expressed his wishes to see such personnel being amongst the senior ranks and in the leading positions within the Nepal Army. It would be very good for the people of Nepal if we had people in influential position who understood the need for human rights and for meaningful peace building. Ms. Shobha Gautam of IHRICON concluded the programme by expressing her best wishes to all the participants and thanking them for their full and active participation.
