IHRICON has been conducting varied programmes in the field of children’s rights and women rights since its establishment. A large numbers of children have lost their beautiful lives since the people's war began over a decade ago. Many of the children have also been injured and some of them have got psychological problems as a result of all the violence. To release children from this violent environment IHRICON have been conducting a campaign on "Children are Peace Zone" since 2002. IHRICON recognise that the children in Nepali society are the future of the country. It would be absurd and unthinkable to believe that a sustainable peace in the country could exist with the absence of children. Therefore it is necessary to define the role of the warring factions to ensure that there is protection for the rights of children. It is also necessary to establish what kinds of mechanism should they have in place and be expected to be followed by the security forces and the Government in order to respect the rights of children.. This in turn would mean that they were free from this violent environment and would enable the children to live securely and happily. The book is helpful to those who work in the field of children’s rights, NGOs, Journalism, civil society, and the security forces. It is also helpful for increasing the awareness of the rights of children for ordinary citizens, the family members, wide society and the nation as a whole. This hand book was published with the assistance of Save the Children Norway. |
