The programme "Interaction with parliamentarians to revise the legislation on controlling arms" was jointly organized by IHRICON and SASA-Net on 29 May 2006 in Kathmandu. This was event was also supported by IANSA. The objectives of the programme were set to ensure that a commitment was given by parliamentarians to reform the legislation to control small arms and implement the arms treaty. It was also an objective to stress the importance of regulating small arms and to increase Journalists awareness levels of the arms trade treaty and the issues of controlling the use and availability of small arms. During the interaction programme most of the political leaders and parliamentarians gave their commitment to form a national commission on small arms and for the Government to show a willingness to participate in the Review Conference on Small Arms at the UN from 26th June to 7th July 2006 |
